Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

Dr. Diana's theoretical approach to psychotherapy

What is Psychodynamic Psychotherapy?

Dr. Diana primarily works from a psychodynamic perspective that is based on elements of object-relations and attachment theory. The psychodynamic perspective is based on the belief that unconscious motivations that result from childhood experiences influence our behaviour and relationships. Attachment theory focuses on how infants relationship with their primary caregiver shapes how they develop trust and relationships with others in their lives throughout their lifespan. Therefore, because these experiences influence our personality and behaviour, the therapeutic process serves to help individuals re-visit their experiences and develop an awareness of how these experiences influence our present life.

Along with verbal therapy, other expressive modalities can be incorporated into the therapeutic process depending on what is most helpful to the client. Such expressive modalities include expressive moment, creative journaling, sand tray, expressive arts, and cinema movie analysis.
